Make it Monday- Diamond Wallpaper Stamping

Hi Everyone!


I am participating in the latest Make-it-Monday Challenge over on Nichole Heady's blog. This week Ashley Cannon newell shared a diamond stamped wallpaper. Now, I don't know why I forgot that I own the Happy Harlequin stamp set (which is pretty much made for this technique!) but I did. And so I had to be creative and try and come up with a stamp that I could use to create this design. So I went with that little row of teardrops in the 'Happiness in Bloom' set (which is one of my all time favourite floral sets). So here is my card :)

I was pretty happy with the way this little number turned out- What do you think? I may get some time tonight to have a play with my Happy Harlequin set and I'll probably create another card for this challenge a little later on. Thanks for stopping by!

Make it Monday #173

Is it really the 173rd MIM??? That's just crazy.

I was super excited when I saw this weeks challenge- couldn't WAIT to try it out. However, I did not have many PTI sets that were outline images. But then i thought, the same technique would work for solid imges. I'd just stamp off once before laying down the original image, and then go over it with water colours. And so, my card is really a mash up between this card by Maile Belles and this card by Jennifer McGuire. How can it go wrong?!

This card makes me happy happy happy! I love watercolour and I love rainbows, and I love love LOVE the wet paint stamp sets from PTI… And I love that I splashed some paint onto the panel by accident, and it was a no-stress event. 'Cause all I did was go and splash some more paint on so the first two splashes weren't so lonely!

Virginia's View - Die Cutting Challenge

A really quick post everyone! This is just a quick entry into the lovely Virginia's View Challenge on die cutting. I have had a very busy month, and have had many ideas in my head as to what to for with this challenge, and with the limited crafty time I have had, I wanted to try out this technique that I saw…ooooh I can't remember for the life of me where!!! But here is my card- and if I find the link to where I got the inspiration from, i will post it later.

It's a simple card- maybe a little too simple…But I thought I may let the technique just shine through. I first stamped the sentiment the main cardbase (which was lightly inked in blue). Then, I stamped The same sentiment on a piece of patterned paper, which I die cut with the SSS big you die. I also cut the 'you' out of some bermuda bay cardstock and stacked the die cuts up on each other for added dimension. Then I adhered it all together, making sure I lined up the sentiment on both the card and the die cut.

Papertrey May Blog Hop Challenge

Hey everyone,

It has been a long time between posts, but it has been a long time between cards for me! We went away to New Zealand on the 1st of May, and got back on the 9th. Since then, it has been crazy, just unpacking three suitcases (gotta learn to pack light), doing loads of washing, planning and executing a two year old's rainbow-themed birthday party for forty people (self-catered, with help from Mum and in-laws)..and so you can imagine my creative energy- it is ready to explode! I have only just made my first card today in….I dunno, a month?! I thought I heard angels sing as I lifted the lid on my Pool Party ink pad.


I am entering this into the Papertrey Ink Blog Hop  for this month which asked us to make something using the colours Aqua and Melon. What a sensational colour combo! So here is my card:

I stamped the flowers from Happiness in Bloom in some Pool Party, Coastal Cabana, Crisp Cantaloupe and Calypso Coral inks (all SU! inks). The sentiment is from Over Under Easy, mounted on black cardstock and embossed in Liquid Platinum embossing powder from Ranger. Then I added some enamel dots from Doodlebug.

I am sharing some pics from my holiday and of my little girl's birthday party.

 We went on a tour of the Hobbiton set that was used in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit movies. Hubby was in nerdy LOTR heaven. That Peter Jackson in a perfectionist and a genius!

Soaking in a hot pool that we dug out ourselves at Hot Water Beach on NZ's Coromandel Coast.

You just rock up to this beach at low tide and start digging wherever you feel the warmth beneath your feet, pretty soon your little hole starts filling with hot spring water (I'm talking 60-64 degrees C- that's like 140F!!!) You have to try and get some other cooler beach water in there just so you can sit in it- or you'll blanche your bum! hahaha!!! An absolutely amazing spot on this planet! 

And now onto our last weekend's rainbow birthday party for little Miss 2

Cure for the Monday Blues #15

Hi Everyone,
Super quick post because I am heading off across the Tasman to New Zealand tomorrow morning…So I need to make this reallly quick. Haven't packed a thing yet…
I so LOOOOOOVVVEEEDDD the inspiration photo for this weeks CFTMB challenge (not that I DON'T like any of them, they are all fabulous) but this one had gold!!!!!! So I had to play. I know Taheerah understands my love for gold ;)

I just love the colours here…and all that glinting gold just set my heart a flutter.

So here is my take on it! 

I was inspired by the blocks of colour in the cups and in the stripes going across the table….but I just wanted to see LOTS of colour, and so went for this colour-blocked look. I then heat embossed the flower spray and sentiment rom PTIs Mini Blooms stamp set. The card looks super in real life!

PS- I apologise for the super busy patterned paper in the BG…I was in such a hurry and the plain and simple one I chose before had so much white it threw all my colours off! So I had to change it last minute. Please try and look past it. Hhaha!!

Virginia's View #2

Hello all! I am once again entering the wonderful Virgia's View Challenge, and this month the theme is stencils. Now, I had yet to jump on the whole stencils bandwagon, but now that I am on… I am really enjoying the ride!

Here are a batch of freshly-squeezed cards I created last night while the littley was asleep (for her first leg of night sleep anyway…yes, she's two and still wakes for cuddles!!!) I managed to do the front panels by ink blending some distress inks over this hexagon stencil by TCW. Took about half an hour. *Cue: baby whining> resettle> sneaky exit from nursery> wait by the door just to make sure…..mad dash back to the crafty lair to finish these cards and put them on their bases.

*sigh* Happy place!

This is gonna be a short and sweet one as it's 10pm and the hubby is back from work after a harrowing day of end-of-quarter reporting. Gotta squeeze in that quality time  :)

A cure for the Monday Blues #11

Hi All,
Yes, it has been ages since my last post…but I have been busy with some study, and now that the course is over- i have some breathing space again. So, I am finally taking part in the CFMB challenge again!
Taheerah provided us with this awesome piece of inspiration:

And here is my take on the challenge

Okay, so this card took many journeys to get to where it is now… It's largely made by a lot of masking with washi tape and ink-blended with distress inks (I just got my first set of distress inks this weekend at a craft show- how did I not get into those babies earlier, I do NOT know..But I love them!).

So my biggest inspiration from this pic was the blue wall with the colourful pink and yellow frames, and so thats the look I was going for. I wanted to mask off a grid with washi tape and then fill in the resulting squares with yellows and pinks, and then, I would peel off the washi and do some more masking to fill in the spaces in blue, leaving the centre section white for my sentiment.

Two problems resulted:
a) The washi tape was more sticky than I had imagined, and I wasn't as patient as I hoped, and therefore…well I dunno if you can see it in this pic, but there are layers of paper ripped off in the sections that I masked off with washi…Luckily there are two sides to every piece of cardstock ;)

And so, second time around, I took some of the tack off the washi and tried again. Success! 

Except I realised I didn't think about what sentiment I wanted to go in the space. I had planned for the card to be portrait….but now I had finally deicded that I wanted the sentiment to be this new Stampin Up! 'You make me Happy' number, and it wouldn't fit vertically, so I had to turn the card landscape to make it fit. No biggie…Until I went and smudged everything everywhere

So *then* decided to stamp the sentiment again and mat it on a panel which I stamped with a diagonal detail stamp. And so here is the card again, just incase you're still reading and following the story…

I very rarely know exactly what I want a card to look like before I start making it…but this time I did. Has it turned out exactly the way I had envisioned? Not exactly, but I sure learned a lot from trying this out. And its very bright and cheerful, and I'm sure it will brighten someone's day when the time comes
